Bharat Jodo Yatra: Banners, posters, boards and flags have been put up at various places in Kerala for the Congress’s Bharat Jodi Yatra. The roads were completely littered with posters and banners. The High Court has objected to this. On Thursday, the Kerala High Court has said that the police and other officials have closed their eyes on road safety. Actually, the matter related to illegal posters, banners and boards on the streets was being heard in the High Court. During this, the matter related to the journey from the side of the amicus curiae was placed before the court. A single bench of Justice Devan Ramachandran was hearing the matter.

Boards, banners, flags and other things planted illegally

The High Court said, “Things have been illegally planted by a particular political party on the NH from Trivandrum to Thrissur and beyond. Police and other officials are aware of this, but they have decided to keep their eyes closed. The court was informed, ‘A particular party has illegally put up a large number of boards, banners, flags and other things during the rally in Kerala.’

Banner-posters are dangerous for drivers

The court further said, “These illegally installed items are dangerous for the drivers, as they can be distracted while going on the highway.” At the same time, there is a danger of some of these things coming loose and causing destruction on a large scale. The court specifically mentioned the danger posed by two wheelers.

Problems for local government entities

The High Court says, “The ability of local government bodies or other relevant authority to dispose of such items and to handle the generated waste is also a problem. Why are government officials not aware of these issues? Especially when our state cannot take climate or weather lightly. The court further observed that the main political parties appear to be involved in such illegal activities. He said that some thoughtless steps on the part of the people and the apathy of the officials cannot stop this court from taking the oath to make Kerala a safe place. At present, the court has adjourned the hearing on the matter till Friday.

14th day of journey completed
