Bihar News: The state police is investigating the attack on seven police personnel, including two station in-charges, by villagers in Bihar’s Katihar district. A senior official gave this information. The Pranpur police station was attacked by villagers on Saturday following the alleged custodial death of a person, in which police personnel were injured, they said. According to the information, the villagers who reached the police station after the news of the alleged custodial death of 40-year-old Pramod Kumar Singh ransacked the protest and also damaged the vehicles kept in the premises. Singh was arrested on Friday for allegedly possessing liquor bottles while there is a prohibition in Bihar.

Injured police personnel hospitalized

The injured police station in-charges have been identified as Manitosh Kumar of Pranpur police station and Shailesh Kumar, in-charge of Dandkhora police station, the official said. Acting Superintendent of Police Dayashankar had said on Saturday, “All the injured policemen have been admitted to the district hospital in Katihar and their condition is stable. The situation is completely under control and our team is camping there.” He claimed that Singh’s body was found when the police were preparing documents to produce him in the court.

Villagers attacked with sticks and iron rods

When the information about the incident reached the villagers, they reached the police station with sticks and iron rods and attacked the police personnel and injured them. It is noteworthy that since April 5, 2016, there is a ban on the production, sale, storage, transportation and consumption of liquor in Bihar and its violation is a punishable offense under the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act 2016.
