Nagaland News: Ahead of the assembly elections to be held in Nagaland early next year, the demand for the creation of a new state by separating the eastern part of the state has intensified. In this episode, 20 MLAs of the area have also supported the call not to participate in any election till the demand is met. It is noteworthy that six districts- Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire, Longleng, Noklak and Shamatar come under East Nagaland. People of seven tribes- Chang, Khiamningan, Konyak, Phom, Sangtam, Tikhir and Yimkhiung live in these districts. The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO), an influential organization in the region, held a meeting with leaders, bodies of the seven tribes and other organizations of the region in Dimapur on August 26, with a resolution that they would not participate in any elections until, Unless their demand for a separate ‘Frontier Nagaland’ state is accepted.

20 MLAs in support of the people

CL John, secretary and advisor to land resources in the Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union, told PTI, “The 20 MLAs of the region cannot go against the wishes of the people. The demand for the formation of a separate state is a mass movement and we are with the people.

Memorandum submitted to the center

Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) MLA John said that since 2010, the demand for a separate state has been going on and the ENPO has submitted memorandums in this regard to the Center on several occasions. John claimed that people are angry with the Center for not giving any reply in this regard.
