Punjab News: A clash broke out between Nihang Sikhs and followers of Radha Soami Satsang Beas on Sunday when Nihang Sikhs allegedly tried to forcibly enter the Dera premises to graze their cattle. 10 persons and a policeman were injured in this incident. Police said that during the clash both the sides threw stones and bricks at each other and some persons opened fire in the air. Amritsar (Rural) Senior Superintendent of Police Swapna Sharma said that the police resorted to mild lathi charge to disperse the Nihangs and Dera supporters and the situation is now under control.

Dispute over grazing cattle

A police officer said that a large number of policemen have been deployed around the Dera premises. According to the police, a group of Nihangs wanted to enter the Dera premises to graze their cattle, but followers of the Radha Soami sect objected to it and prevented them from entering. According to the police, an argument broke out between the two sides. According to the police, one of the Nihangs allegedly attacked a security in-charge of Radha Soami Satsang Beas, identified as Paramdeep Singh Teja, and suffered a shoulder injury.

Davinder Kumar, in-charge of Jandila Guru police station, was present at the spot and tried to intervene and he also sustained injuries. According to the police, the situation worsened when the group of Nihangs again tried to forcibly enter the Dera premises, leading to a clash between the two groups. Dera supporters claim that Nihangs broke one of the entrance gates of the Dera premises. Apart from the police officer, a total of 10 people from both the sides were injured. The injured have been admitted to Baba Bakala Civil Hospital.

Punjab Congress Chief tweeted
Meanwhile, Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding appealed everyone to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation. Wadding tweeted, “Disturbing news coming from Radha Swami Dera, Beas, where a dispute led to a violent incident. Some people are reported to be injured. Appeal to all to remain calm and not spread any misinformation on social media.

Sukhbir Singh Badal appealed
Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal also appealed to the people to maintain peace and communal harmony. Badal tweeted, “The violence in Beas is extremely disturbing. Repeated clashes and breakdown of law and order is pushing the state towards anarchy. I urge (Chief Minister) Bhagwant Mann to deal with the situation immediately. I also appeal to Punjabis to maintain peace and communal harmony at this crucial time.
