Rahul Gandhi: With the election for the post of Congress President approaching, the demand for Rahul Gandhi to be made the President once again within the party has intensified. In the same sequence, on Monday also eight local units of the party, including seven state Congress committees, passed resolutions in support of Rahul Gandhi. These resolutions were passed by these Congress units after Rahul Gandhi had indicated in Kanyakumari on September 9 that he stood by his old decision to become the party’s president.

After Rajasthan, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh, Congress units in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar and Mumbai today passed a resolution saying that Rahul Gandhi should take over the reins of the party once again. Many state Congress committees have passed this resolution at a time when the state units of Congress on Tuesday passed a resolution asking that the next president of the Congress be authorized to appoint new state presidents and delegates of the All India Congress Committee. . Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh started passing resolutions demanding Rahul Gandhi to be made president.

If I will not contest for the post of President, I will tell the reason- Rahul

Many state units of the Congress have made this appeal to Rahul Gandhi at a time when the notification for the election of the party president is about to be issued on September 22. Rahul Gandhi said earlier this month that he had taken a decision, but would not reveal his plans. He had also said that if he would not contest the upcoming elections for the post of party president, he would give reasons for it. Rahul’s remarks have been seen as an indication in the party that he is not willing to contest for the post of party president.

‘Gandhi family will continue to have a special place in the party even if Rahul does not become president’

In recent times, several senior Congress leaders have said that the Gandhi family will continue to have a special place in the party even if Rahul does not become the party president. Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Sunday supported the consensus for the selection of the President of the All India Congress Committee (AICC). He said that whether Rahul Gandhi is the party president or not, he will always have a ‘special place’ in the party as he has ‘acceptance’ among the common workers of the party.

Senior party leader Jairam Ramesh also advocated for a consensus in the selection of the new president and sought to maintain the prominence of the Nehru-Gandhi family in organizational matters if any situation arises. The notification for the election of Congress President will be issued on September 22 and the process of filing nominations will go on from September 24 to 30. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 08. Voting will be held on October 17 if there is more than one candidate. The results will be declared on October 19.
