WB SSC Scam: A special Enforcement Directorate (ED) court on Wednesday rejected the bail pleas of former minister Partha Chatterjee and his close aide Arpita Mukherjee in the multi-crore West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) recruitment irregularities scam and remanded them to 14-day judicial custody. sent in. During the hearing, both Chatterjee and Mukherjee appeared in virtual mode from correctional homes. Judge Jiban Kumar Sandhu ruled that both would appear in virtual mode for the next hearing on September 14.

Bail petition on the basis of health, age

Counsel for both Chatterjee and Mukherjee said that their clients were willing to appear physically. Justice Sandhu, however, observed that virtual attendance at the hearing does not inhibit personal liberty at any cost. Chatterjee’s lawyer Haradhan Bandyopadhyay filed the bail plea on health and age-related grounds. He also argued that the probe agency has no evidence that the cash and property documents recovered in the case belonged to Chatterjee. He also argued that his client was even willing to remain under house arrest.

Proof of relationship between the two insurance policies

However, ED’s counsel Firoz Edulji, in his counter-argument, submitted that the various life insurance policies named by Chatterjee on behalf of Mukherjee are clear evidence of the linkage between the two. He also pointed out that although the life insurance policies were with Arpita Mukherjee, the premium payments were debited from Chatterjee’s bank account. The policy documents mention Chatterjee as Arpita’s uncle.

‘Bail will not be given at any cost’

He also referred to Chatterjee as an influential person and said that therefore he will not be granted bail at any cost. He argued, “The hospital reports that his lawyer had to reach the court itself. But those reports reached Chatterjee. This proves how influential he is.” Finally, after hearing both the sides, the judge rejected the bail plea and extended his judicial custody.
