Chandigarh: A court on Monday sent the three accused arrested in the Chandigarh University-related video case to police custody for a week. The accused include a Chandigarh University student and two boys. The names of the accused boys are Sunny Mehta and Rankaj Verma. Meanwhile, the family of accused Rankaj has claimed that he is innocent and has been implicated in the case. Pankaj, brother of accused Rankaj told India TV that his brother’s photo has been uploaded wrongly.

‘He himself went to file a complaint’

Pankaj said, ‘When Rankaj came to know about this, he himself went to the Dali police station to file a complaint. We were in Shimla and went to Dali police station 3 times. My brother has written a report that his photo is being misused, and the matter should be looked into as soon as the image is getting spoiled. We spoke to the Punjab Police from the same police station itself. We stayed in the police station till the arrival of the Punjab Police. My brother’s photo is being trolled by making him viral everywhere. What if he is proven innocent tomorrow?’

Pankaj, brother of accused Rankaj said that his brother did not know the second accused Sunny beforehand. Pankaj said, ‘My brother did not know Sunny, but even if he knew, how can he be blamed. There are reports that Raknaj is getting married to Sunny. Video If it was so, then it should be told to which number the video was sent to Rankaj. That number should be probed to bring out the truth. As soon as we came to know about the molesting of the DP, we went to the police station to lodge a complaint.

Punjab Police formed 3-member SIT
Let us inform that Punjab Police had formed a 3-member SIT on Monday to investigate the matter, all the members of which are women. Meanwhile, a court in Kharar, Mohali sent the three accused, including the girl student, on 7-day police remand. Protests took place at the university in Mohali, Punjab on Saturday night over this issue. Some students also claimed that the videos recorded by the student have also been leaked. Police had earlier said that the arrested student appeared to have shared only a video of herself with her 23-year-old ‘boyfriend’ and no objectionable video of any other student was found.
