Good news for Amrapali home buyers

New Delhi: Amrapali Group There is good news from the Supreme Court for the troubled home buyers. The top court was informed on Friday that 11,858 flats would be handed over to home buyers in the next two to three months, out of which 5,428 flats would be handed over in October itself. A bench of Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and Justice Bela M Trivedi was headed by the receiver of the court, senior advocate R. Venkataramani informed that 5,428 flats completed by NBCC will be handed over to home buyers along with electricity and water connections next month in the festive season.

“We are facing some issues regarding electricity and water connection for another 6,430 flats and once the connection is provided and completion certificate is received, these units will be kept for the next two to three months,” he said. The bench told Venkataramani that it is a significant development that out of the proposed 38,000 plus flats, more than 11,000 flats are being handed over to the buyers and also asked him to ensure that the flats to be handed over to its buyers only after full payment.

Flats will be handed over only after getting full payment

The senior advocate assured the bench that all these completed flats would be handed over only after the full payment is received from the home buyers. Venkataramani said that out of a total estimated amount of Rs 3,014 crore, he has so far received Rs 1,275 crore from 22,701 home buyers and the remaining amount is to be received from 7939 home buyers, who have been issued ‘show cause notices’ in this regard. And according to the payment plan this amount will be received by October 2024.

1970 ‘Defaulter’ buyer
Advocate ML Lahoti, appearing for the home buyers, told the bench that there are 1970 ‘defaulters’ buyers who have not cleared their dues despite notices and the flats of such buyers need to be sold through auction. Justice Lalit said he had limited time and would like to tackle three to four major issues of Amrapali, which would speed up the entire construction process and ensure successful completion of stalled projects. The bench also extended the relief granted to former Amrapali Group Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Anil Sharma after he was told that he was to undergo surgery in October.

Shiv Priya out on bail
Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, appearing for the Centre, said she was not opposing Sharma’s bail application on medical grounds. The bench also extended the relief granted to former Amrapali director Shiv Priya till October 11 and allowed Delhi Police to file the affidavit. Priya is out on bail for the treatment of her daughter who is suffering from liver problem.
