Jai Ram Ramesh targeted PM Modi: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Sunday shared a letter on Twitter, claiming that he started ‘Project Cheetah’ in 2009 and criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s allegations of not making constructive efforts by previous governments to bring cheetahs to India. Termed ‘unreasonable liar’. Prime Minister Modi on Saturday hit out at the previous governments, saying no constructive efforts were made to reintroduce cheetahs to India after they became extinct from the country seven decades ago. Modi’s remarks came after three of the eight cheetahs brought from Namibia were released into special enclosures at Kuno National Park (KNP) in Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh. Ramesh tweeted, “This is the letter through which ‘Project Cheetah’ was started in 2009. Our prime minister is an unreasonable liar. I could not issue this letter yesterday as I was busy in ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’.

Jairam Ramesh also shared a letter

Along with the tweet, he shared the letter he had sent to Wildlife Trust of India’s M.K. in 2009 as the then Environment and Forests Minister. Wrote to Ranjit Singh. In the letter, Ramesh had asked Ranjit Singh to prepare an action plan for the rehabilitation of the cheetahs and include a detailed analysis of the various potential sites for rehabilitation. There was no immediate reaction from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Ramesh’s remarks. In his remarks on Saturday, Modi had said, “It is unfortunate that we declared cheetahs extinct in 1952, but for decades no constructive effort was made to bring them back to India. Now with renewed vigor and vigor, the country has taken up this project to rehabilitate cheetahs during this ‘nectar period’.

Congress leader also alleged

The Congress had called Prime Minister Modi’s release of cheetahs in Madhya Pradesh’s national park a “tamasha”, which he termed as another ploy to divert attention from national issues and the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. Ramesh alleged that the prime minister “rarely accepts continuity in governance” and the Cheetah project is the latest example.
