  • JDU President Lalan Singh made a big claim
  • Signs of alliance with Samajwadi Party
  • Claim to contain BJP on 20 seats in UP

An alliance of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav could defeat the mighty Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in neighboring Uttar Pradesh. Janata Dal-United (JDU) said this on Saturday. JDU president Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan claimed here that party workers in Uttar Pradesh want real leader Nitish Kumar to contest the next Lok Sabha elections in the neighboring state.

Signs of alliance with SP

The JDU chief said, “The most enthusiastic demand for our Chief Minister as a Lok Sabha election candidate has come from Phulpur. Similar demands have been made by the workers of Ambedkar Nagar and Mirzapur. Elections are more than a year away, so we are not thinking in terms of accepting or rejecting such demands right now.” Kumar had met during his recent visit to Delhi.

Claim to contain BJP on 20 seats
JD(U) president Lalan said, “There is a wave of our leader’s campaign for opposition unity. Though he can decide to contest from any of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, the demands arising from Uttar Pradesh are a sign of discussion about his national initiative. (Former Chief Minister and son of Mulayam Singh Yadav) come together, the BJP, which won 65 Lok Sabha seats in UP in 2019, may get less than 20 seats.

“Nitish can be substitute for PM’s post”
Amid talks of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar emerging as the prime ministerial candidate from the opposition, his party Janata Dal (United) on Friday said he could be an option if other parties wanted to. JD(U) president Lalan Singh said Kumar’s main focus is on uniting opposition parties to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He said he would visit the national capital to meet leaders of various parties after the trust vote in the Bihar Assembly next week.
