Britain News: UK Secretary of State James Cleverley said India occupies a very important place on the global stage and London would like to see it play an active role on the global stage with its size, economic impact. Supporting India’s permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council, he said that long-standing institutions like the United Nations should keep on reinventing themselves to make their future as influential as the past. Cleverly told PTI in an exclusive interview here on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly’s high-level session on Wednesday: What is needed is that his future is just as influential as his recent past. India is an important player on the global stage in many ways.

Want to see India play an active role globally: Cleverly

He said Britain was the first of the five permanent members of the Security Council. The Security Council also includes China, France, Russia and the United States. He also supported giving permanent membership to India in the Security Council. Cleverly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development in the new government of Prime Minister Liz Truss, said: “I think it is appropriate that the Security Council reflects the world it is today and not the world when the United Nations was created.” Obviously we want to see India play a full and active role on the global stage with its size and economic impact.

Said this thing about the Indo-Pacific

Responding to a question, the British minister said the Indo-Pacific has been at the heart of Britain’s recent strategic, security and development planning.
