China News: A Chinese court on Friday sentenced another security official to death in a corruption case. However, there will be a two-year moratorium on its implementation. A day earlier, on Thursday, two senior officials were punished by a court in a corruption and abuse of office case. Sun Lijun, a former deputy minister of public security, accused of leading a group of opponents of President Xi Jinping, has been sentenced to death on charges of taking bribes. He is accused of influencing the stock market and illegally possessing weapons.

Political rights also snatched from former deputy minister

The Intermediate People’s Court of Changchun in Jilin province in northeastern China said that Sun should also be stripped of his political rights and all his personal property be attached. Sun, 53, is accused of leading a rival group and of being disloyal to Xi. The report said five former police chiefs accused of corruption cases were jailed earlier this week. On Thursday, the same court sentenced two senior security officials, including a powerful former justice minister Fu Zhenghua, to death. However, there will be a two-year moratorium on its implementation.

Sun Lijunal was convicted by the court
Hours later, the court handed down a similar sentence to Jiangsu official Wang Laik, reported the state-run People’s Daily Online. He is a former member of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee Communist Party of China (CPC). On Friday, the court said it has been proved that Sun took advantage of his various positions from 2001 to April 2020, receiving a total of more than $92.30 million in money and valuables.

Two former security officers also sentenced to death in China
A day earlier on Thursday, two senior security officials in China, including a former justice minister, were sentenced to death for corruption and abuse of power, but their sentence has been suspended for two years. Both of them have been sentenced at a time when the anti-corruption campaign of Chinese President Xi Jinping has gained momentum. China’s former Justice Minister Fu Zhenghua was sentenced to death on Thursday for corruption and abuse of power worth USD 173 million by the Intermediate People’s Court of Changchun in northeast China’s Jilin province, Chinese state media reported here.
