UN General Assembly: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has reached New York for the high level session of the United Nations General Assembly. On this visit, he will participate in more than 50 official events including bilateral and multilateral meetings. India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj tweeted on Sunday, “Glad to welcome our External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar here to attend the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly. He will participate or co-chair several bilateral and multilateral meetings during this week.

In the high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly beginning here this week, India will focus mainly on issues like counter-terrorism, peacekeeping, climate change programs and equitable distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine. Jaishankar arrived in New York on Sunday to attend the 77th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly, which will begin with open debate on September 20. Jaishankar will address world leaders from the forum of the United Nations General Assembly on September 24 after more than 50 bilateral and multilateral official meetings in the week ahead of the session.

The journey will begin with bilateral meetings

He will begin his visit with bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Albania, Malta, Egypt and Indonesia, Saba Korosi, President of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, and several other leaders. He will also participate in the France-India-UAE trilateral meeting. India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations said in a video posted on Twitter that the five ‘S’-mantras of respect, dialogue, cooperation, peace and prosperity given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be India’s “guides” in the 77th session of the General Assembly.

Jaishankar to meet Antonio Guterres

Jaishankar’s visit to the US from September 18 to 28 will also include a visit to Washington DC after the UN General Assembly session, while in New York he will meet UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. India’s current two-year term in the UN Security Council will end in December this year when India will preside over the council.
