NASA DART Mission: Meteorites are the biggest threat to the Earth present in space. To save Earth and humanity from these meteorites, the US space agency NASA launched the Dart mission last year. Here DART stands for Double Asteroid Redirection Test. Now this mission is going to complete its work on 26 September. That is, about 10 months after its launch. Under this mission, a NASA spacecraft will hit a meteorite and try to change its direction. With this collision, scientists will find out what will be the effect on the meteorite after the collision in space. The spacecraft will also capture images of the event, which will be released via live stream on the NASA website at 5:30 p.m. The asteroid will collide with the moon moving with Didymos.

Before this, the spacecraft will study the meteorite. After this the moon will collide with the meteorite. Scientists hope that this may change its direction. If the mission is not successful then more missions can be sent in future. The Didymos meteorite is 2,600 feet in diameter, with a small moon-like stone revolving around it, called Dimorphos, which the spacecraft will collide with. Its diameter is 525 feet. That is, NASA will target a stone like this small moon. Which will later collide with Didymos. Then the changes in the speed of these two will be studied from the telescope on Earth.

Earth can be saved in future



Scientists expect that this will change the direction of the meteorite. If this mission is not successful, then more similar missions will be launched in future. If the mission is successful, it will help scientists save Earth from future meteorite collisions. The spacecraft will move towards the meteorite at a speed of 24 thousand kilometers per hour. This is the first mission that aims to change the direction of a meteorite, whose success will save humans from extinction like dinosaurs. The main target in this is a meteorite named Didymos.

Didymos was discovered two decades ago

NASA’s target is things near the Earth. Which are in space and are located at a distance of only 48 thousand kilometers from the earth. NASA aims to detect meteorites that can harm the Earth. Astronomers discovered Didymos two decades ago. The DART spacecraft collision will be monitored by the Light Italian CubeSat for Imaging Asteroid. So far, NASA has detected more than 8000 near-Earth objects i.e. near Earth. The advantage of this mission will be that if there is a possibility of a meteorite hitting the earth in future, then its direction can be changed in time.
