Highlights

  • Indian team was defeated by 2-1 in T20 series
  • ODI series will be played under ICC ODI Championship
  • Jhulan Goswami will take retirement after this series

ENGW vs INDW: After losing the three-match T20I series 2-1 on the tour of England, the Indian team will start the three-match ODI series from Sunday. The Indian women’s cricket team, which has been underperforming in T20s, will have to do well in every department of the game in the ODI series against England if veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami is to bid farewell to veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami. India did not have a good T20 series in which it performed poorly especially in batting and fielding.

Good chance to beat injured England!

The host England team will be worried if three players, including injured captain Heather Knight, are out of this series. In such a situation, India has a good chance of defeating England on their soil. India’s middle order problem has been there for a long time and the team management could not find a solution even in three T20 matches against England. D. Hemlata was tried in the middle order but she could not make an impact. Jemima Rodriguez may have been included in the team but her fitness is being questioned. She withdrew from ‘The Hundred’ competition due to injury. Yastika Bhatia, who was dropped from the T20 team, will be under pressure to perform well.

Jhulan Goswami’s last series

Where Indian batting will depend on Smriti Mandhana and captain Harmanpreet Kaur. On the other hand, opener Shefali Verma will have to bring consistency in her performance. Jhulan will say goodbye to international cricket after this series. She will try to make this series memorable but other members of India’s fast bowling department have failed to put up an impressive performance. Recently Renuka Singh has given some hope but India is still heavily dependent on spinners.

What will be the bowling combination?

Pooja Vastrakar, Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma deserve a place in the team on the basis of their performance but the question arises whether it would be the right choice to have three all-rounders instead of specialists in the last 11. The series will be part of the ICC One Day Women’s Championship, which will decide the qualifiers for the 2025 World Cup. As far as England is concerned, Amy Jones will lead the team in Knight’s absence. Alice Capsi and Freya Kemp, who performed well in the T20 series, have been included in the ODI squad for the first time.

The squads of both the teams are as follows:-

India: Harmanpreet Kaur (Captain), Smriti Mandhana (Vice-Captain), Shafali Verma, Sabineni Meghna, Deepti Sharma, Tania Bhatia, Yastika Bhatia, Pooja Vastrakar, Sneh Rana, Renuka Thakur, Meghna Singh, Rajeshwari Gaikwad, Harleen Deol, Dayalan Hemlata, Simran Dil Bahadur, Jhulan Goswami, Jemima Rodrigues.

England: Amy Jones (captain), Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Bell, Mya Boucher, Alice Capsi, Kate Cross, Freya Davies, Ellis Davidson Richards, Charlie Dean, Sophia Dunkley, Sophie Ecclestone, Freya Kemp, Issie Wong, Danny White.
